Role: Creative Direction and Design
Branding for a New Haven style pizza spot, opening in 2023. Housed inside an historic warehouse in the appropriately named Railroad District, the ask was to merge a Neapolitan pizza aesthetic with a railroad theme — a fun and tricky challenge.
District’s brand colors are based on a good ol’ fashioned Italian eatery (red, green, white), but darkened a few shades to provide new century appeal. At top of mind in the logo design was the front of a steam engine and — you guessed it — a pizza pie. The logo result is a happy marriage of the two, from the font choice and name placement, to the locomotive nuts and bolts which double as pizza toppings. As construction on the building is just getting started, the oversize window posters offer a glimpse of future fun to be had. The brand assets and logo alternatives add a little whimsy to the raw space as it’s brought to life. More to come!
